What are dentures?

Dentures are removable replacements for natural teeth in the event of tooth loss or damage. Many things can lead to tooth loss, such as illness or injury to the mouth or face. Dentures are created to fill in the gaps in your smile and enhance your overall appearance. It is possible to find dentures that only cover the gaps left by a few missing teeth. Acrylic, nylon, or metal are common materials used to create dentures. Dentures that fit correctly can enhance your life in many ways, from your ability to communicate and eat to your sense of self-worth and confidence. It can help keep your face from sagging with time and may also help keep your remaining teeth healthy. Dentures of any type will be tailored to your mouth's unique shape and colouration to look just like your natural teeth.

Types of dentures

Dr Patel has a variety of different dentures available, and these include:

• All-on-4 implant dentures - Patients needing complete dentures can benefit significantly from All-on-4 implant dentures. Strategically placing four dental implants can restore an entire section of teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. A dentist must remove the denture, as you cannot do so alone.
• Complete dentures - Dentures that replace all teeth are also known as full dentures. Complete dentures are made to replace a person's natural teeth. Before recommending complete dentures, most dentists will attempt to preserve as many of the patient's natural teeth as possible. Complete dentures, however, are often required when all other treatment options have failed. Metal or acrylic gum fittings and plates that blend in with your gums are typically undetectable to others. It is possible to use denture adhesive to help secure your false teeth.
• Fixed partial dentures - Implant-supported bridges are another name for fixed partial dentures. Fixed partial dentures (FPDs) use two dental implants and a prosthetic tooth or teeth to replace a row of missing teeth. They are either permanently glued or screwed into the mouth.
• Immediate dentures - Traditional dentures can't be put in place until at least 6-8 weeks have passed since your teeth were extracted. There will be sufficient time for your mouth to recover. After your natural teeth have been extracted, you can immediately replace them with removable dentures. Although immediate dentures save time, they can be challenging to adjust to because they are not custom fit to your gums. Furthermore, they need more upkeep and don't look as natural.
• Implant-retained dentures - Overdentures are implant-supported dentures that rest on top of the gums for support. Typically, at least four implants are used to secure an overdenture. The upper jaw, lower jaw, or both may be fitted with overdentures.
• Removable partial dentures - Some teeth in your upper or lower jaw can be replaced by a removable partial denture (RPD). RPDs are readily removable and replaceable. They can return teeth to their original form and function.
